EUDR update: European Commission publishes 5th edition of EUDR FAQs
The European Commission has published the 5th iteration of the EUDR Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), now available in all EU languages. A targeted corrigendum to the English version clarifies when a change in HS/CN code makes a company a downstream operator (FAQ 3.1.1) and who qualifies as the first EU-based actor when a non-EU company places a relevant product on the EU market (FAQ 3.7).
For the soya value chain, the update does not introduce a new substantive compliance requirement. It does, however, reinforce the need for accurate role assignment and reliable documentation throughout soybean, soya oil and soya meal supply chains.
What soya businesses should do:
- Crushers and processors: check whether a change in HS/CN code means you are placing a derived relevant product on the market – and therefore qualify as a downstream operator
- Importers and first EU buyers: verify who qualifies as the EUDR operator in your supply chain
- Traders and downstream operators: review role allocation, product codes and supporting documentation
EUDR Information System: release 8.2.1 now live
The European Commission has deployed release 8.2.1 of the EUDR Information System. Key updates include:
- voluntary grouping of DDS and Simplified Declarations (SD);
- full versioning for Simplified Declarations;
- new registration roles for downstream operators and MSPOs; and
- improved upstream verification.
The grouping function and SD versioning are especially relevant for soya supply chains, where operators often handle high volumes of declarations and MSPOs may need to update their simplified declarations as quantities or plots change. The new verification features give downstream actors – such as crushers and traders – better tools to check compliance upstream.
